Pseudo-satellites allow accurate navigation in Helsinki harbour

Pseudo-satellites, ground-based substitutes used when signals from ‘real’ satellites are not available, can deliver accurate positioning information in places where conventional solutions fail. This was demonstrated on 27 June in Helsinki harbour as part of a project supported by ESA.

Contact established with Genesis II

Bigelow Aerospace said it has established contact with its second pathfinder spacecraft, Genesis II. Launched earlier Thursday from Yasny, Russia, Mission Control in North Las Vegas, Nevada/USA, made first contact at 2120 UTC the same day.

Indosat orders Palapa-D from TAS

PT Indosat Tbk has appointed Thales Alenia Space to build and launch the Palapa-D satellite. The spacecraft, to be launched aboard a Chinese rocket during the second half of 2009, will replace Palapa-C2 at 113 degrees East, which is due to expire in 2011.

Kosmos 2428 launched on first Land Launch test flight

Rocket: Zenit-2M; Payload: Kosmos 2428; Date: 29 June 2007, 1000 UTC; Site: Kazakhstan, Baikonur. The classified military satellite was successfully put in orbit, new agencies reported.
