Dr. T. K. Alex appointed as new director of ISRO satellite centre

Dr. T. K. Alex is appointed as Director, ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore. He will take over charge on 31 May 2008 from Dr. K. N. Shankara. ISAC is the premier centre of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) responsible for the development of satellite technology.

ND SatCom awarded contract by U.S. Navy SPAWAR

SES Astra announced that its subsidiary ND SatCom has been selected as a prime contractor for the U.S. Department of the Navy, Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) in Charleston, South Carolina.

GLONASS programme to be amended

An amended federal GLONASS programme will be approved this year, Yury Urlichich, the general designer of the navigation system, was quoted as saying. However, the completion of the system appears to have slipped back another year.

Delay of the day (II): Delta II/GLAST

The launch of NASA’s GLAST spacecraft aboard a United Launch Alliance Delta II rocket has been rescheduled for 5 June. The launch window extends from 1545 to 1740 UTC and remains unchanged through 7 August.

Delay of the day (I): Ariane 5, Skynet 5C/Turksat 3A

During final pre-launch checks for today’s Ariane 5 ECA’s mission with Skynet 5C and Turksat 3A, the result of a launcher software test was not nominal. Therefore, Arianespace has decided to stop the launch countdown.
