Space Systems Award for LM’s GPS IIR-M team

The Greater Philadelphia Section of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has selected a Lockheed Martin team as the winner of the 2008 Space Systems Award for the successful completion of the modernised Global Positioning System IIR (GPS IIR-M) production programme.

CHIPSat mothballed in orbit

The University of California, Berkeley, said its scientists in effect “switched off” the Cosmic Hot Interstellar Plasma Spectrometer satellite (CHIPSat) last month, ending the mission of NASA’s first and only low-cost, university-class Explorer spacecraft.

Space shuttle Discovery launches, docks with ISS

Space shuttle Discovery and its seven-member crew lifted off from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on 31 May at 2102 UTC to deliver and install a Japanese laboratory on the International Space Station. Discovery docked with the ISS today at 1803 UTC.
