Hubble payload in safe mode again after new anomalies

Activation of Hubble Space Telescope science instruments and resumption of science observations has been suspended following two anomalies seen in systems onboard the telescope. The science payload will likely stay in safe mode for another week. Spacecraft operations are not affected.

Russia plans five new weather satellites

Russia will have five weather satellites in orbit by 2013, with the first to be launched later this year, the director of the hydrometeorological centre (Rosgidromet) said.

WorldSpace, Inc. voluntarily files for bankruptcy protection

WorldSpace, Inc., along with its U.S. subsidiaries WorldSpace Systems Corporation and AfriSpace, Inc., have filed voluntary petitions for reorganisation under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Koni is not a piglet, and GLONASS is growing

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s black labrador dog, Koni, was given a collar that will allow her master to track her movements using the GLONASS navigation system – maybe some time next year, that is. Even though the satellite constellation is far from being complete, things are looking increasingly good.
