HYLAS to fly Ariane 5, not Falcon 9

Avanti Communications Group plc has moved the launch of its planned HYLAS satellite from SpaceX’s Falcon 9 to Ariane 5, apparently under pressure from some potential investors – even though the switch costs almost US$70 million.

Six nanosats to be launched with India’s Oceansat-2

ISRO’s Oceansat-2 satellite will be launched next month from Sriharikota aboard a PSLV rocket that will also carry six international nanosatellites.

Ulysses spacecraft ends mission

Ulysses, a joint NASA and European Space Agency mission, officially ceased operations on 30 June 2009, after receiving commands from ground controllers to do so. The spacecraft, which operated for more than 18 years, charted the unexplored regions of space above the poles of the Sun.
