The aggressive nature of the satellite TV operators in plundering market share means the cable TV companies are operating in a scenario of a continuously declining market. Satellite TV has the edge not only because of the cost advantages it has over cable TV, but also because of its technological advantages.

COMS-1 launch planned in first half 2010

South Korea plans to launch its Communications, Oceanography and Meteorology Satellite COMS-1 in the first half of this year, hoping to enhance the speed and accuracy of weather forecasting, the state-run aerospace agency said.

Russia to go ahead with Luch revival next year

Final tests for second ATV

“Johannes Kepler,” the second unmanned European cargo spacecraft for the International Space Station (ISS), is currently undergoing its first flightworthiness and functionality tests as a fully integrated unit at the Astrium facility in Bremen, Germany.

SBIRS programme passes two more milestones

The U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin team developing the Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) programme has achieved two key milestones: a testing milestone demonstrating that the ground system is on track to support launch of the first SBIRS geosynchronous (GEO-1) satellite in the constellation, and a maturity milestone moving the ground system into the next level of integration.

Update: NOAA deactivates GOES-10 after 12 years of tracking storms

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) announced that the GOES 10 satellite that it built for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) was retired after serving the organisation for 12 years, more than twice its required mission life.
