Hayabusa first spacecraft to return asteroid samples to Earth

Japan’s exploration spacecraft Hayabusa has indeed, as hoped, returned the first ever samples from the surface of an asteroid, JAXA confirmed.

New GLONASS-K variant with additional signals

Russia plans to launch another version of its modernised GLONASS-K navigation satellites in 2013. The GLONASS-K2 design is to offer new frequencies.

CGWIC buys rockets, satellites en gros

IP Cores, Inc. licenses encryption technology to SS/L

IP Cores, Inc. said it has licensed its encryption technology to Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) for satellite applications. The IP Cores solution will be used in conjunction with SS/L’s satellite control subsystem to provide high security for satellite communications.

Proton, not Soyuz

In the 15 November article about the launch of SkyTerra 1, it was erroneously claimed that the satellite was lofted by a Soyuz rocket. Of course, it was launched by a Proton M/Briz M. Sorry for any confusion, and thank you to everybody who wrote to point out the mistake. The archived article has been corrected accordingly.
