The ILS Failure Review Oversight Board (FROB) concluded its review on 13 August concurring with the conclusions of the Russian State Inter-agency Commission on the root cause and the associated corrective action plan of the Proton M/Block DM mission failure on 2 July 2013.

SSL discloses undisclosed customer

Space Systems/Loral named its undisclosed customer for a multi-mission communications satellite announced on 18 July 2013. The satellite is being manufactured for Brazilian satellite operator Star One, a subsidiary of Embratel.

NASA ends attempts to fully recover Kepler spacecraft

Chandrayaan 2 without Russian participation

ISRO has decided to build and launch its second lunar mission, Chandrayaan 2, without Russian help. Originally, Roskosmos was to provide a lander that would ferry an Indian rover to explore the moon’s surface.

NASA announces additional Commercial Crew Development milestones

NASA announced that it is adding some additional milestones to agreements with three U.S. commercial companies that are developing spaceflight capabilities that could eventually provide launch services to transport NASA astronauts to the International Space Station from U.S. soil.
