Planetary Society announces test flight for LightSail spacecraft

The Planetary Society announced the first of its LightSail spacecraft will embark on a May 2015 test flight. Funded entirely by private citizens, the solar sail satellite will hitch a ride to space aboard an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.

Orbital, ATK stockholders approve merger

Orbital Sciences Corporation announced that at a special meeting, the company’s stockholders voted overwhelmingly to approve the proposed merger with the Aerospace and Defense Groups of Alliant Techsystems Inc., pursuant to the definitive transaction agreement dated 28 April 2014.

Moon Express awarded US$1 million for commercial lunar lander demo

Moon Express, Inc. (MoonEx) has been awarded US$1 million by Google Lunar XPRIZE for its recent lander test flights, taking home the only Lander System milestone prize awarded for a full lander system demonstration. The tests were conducted at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, utilising a test range located at the north end of the Shuttle Landing Facility.

Rosetta team earns Swigert Award for Space Exploration
