Orbital ATK and NASA report initial findings from QM-1 test

Data from the first five-segment qualification motor (QM-1) test conducted by Orbital ATK and NASA show the solid rocket motor performed as designed. Manufactured by Orbital ATK, the five-segment motor will be used to provide lift-off and ascent thrust for NASA’s Space Launch System, or SLS.

SBIRS HEO-3 checked out

The U.S. Air Force has successfully completed the on-orbit checkout of the third Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) sensor operating in a highly elliptical orbit (HEO-3) over the northern hemisphere.
