NASA may have found cause for MGS loss

The recent failure of NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) appears to have been caused by faulty software, an agency official said. In addition, the agency said it has formed an internal review board that is to examine the MGS failure.

New Russian navigation satellites healthy, NPO-PM says

The three Uragan M satellites launched on 25 December 2006, are functioning well in orbit, manufacturer NPO-PM said according to Itar-Tass.

Preparations for first Sea Launch in 2007 begin

The first Sea Launch of the year has been tentatively scheduled for 25 January, Interfax reported. On its first flight for SES Global, the Zenit-3SL is to loft the NSS-8 communications satellite.

India’s PSLV launches four satellites

Rocket: PSLV-C7; Payload: Cartosat 2, SRE 1, LAPAN-TUBSAT, Pehuensat 1; Date: 10 January 2007, 0353 UTC; Launch Site: Sriharikota, India. The rocket reached a 635 km x 97.9 degrees sun-synchronous orbit approx. 16 minutes after lift-off and completed the deployment of its payloads about four minutes later.
