GOES-R pre-launch details

Harris Corporation said its new Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) weather instrument and enterprise ground system will be key components of the GOES-R system, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) next-generation weather satellite scheduled to launch on 19 November. GOES-R will provide more detailed, accurate and rapid weather information than what is available from NOAA’s current geostationary weather satellites.

China launches new weather satellite

Rocket: Chang Zheng 2D; Payload: Yunhai-1; Date: 11 November 2016, 2314 UTC; Launch site: Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre, China. The weather satellite was deployed into a 750 km x 98 degrees Sun-synchronous orbit.

SES Government Solutions is Awarded BBG Managed Services Contract

SES Government Solutions, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SES, was awarded a managed services contract to support the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG). Long-delayed Atlas V launches WorldView-4, seven cubesats

Rocket: Atlas V 401; Payload: WorldView-4 (fka GeoEye-2) plus seven cubesats; Date: 11 November 2016, 1830 UTC; Launch site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, USA. The imaging satellite was deployed into a sun-synchronous orbit. The cubesats were launched for the U.S. National Reconnaissance Office and successfully deployed after a two-hour secondary mission.
