New Horizons exits brief safe mode, recovery operations continue

SSL, DARPA announce robotic programme; Orbital ATK files lawsuit

Space Systems Loral has been selected by the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop the capability to service and maintain spacecraft and other infrastructure in the geostationary arc. Meanwhile, Orbital ATK has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to halt the programme.

Problems with GPS III satellite testing continue

The U.S. Air Force has decided to accept the first GPS III satellite even if some of its components may be flawed. The programme’s latest setback may affect a decision on whether to open the final 22 satellites to competition from Lockheed rivals Boeing Co. and Northrop Grumman Corp.

THz satellite links possibly as fast as fibre-optic links

Hiroshima University, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, and Panasonic Corporation announced the development of a terahertz (THz) transmitter capable of transmitting digital data at a rate exceeding 100 gigabits (= 0.1 terabit) per second over a single channel using the 300-GHz band.

Satellites fuelled for first Ariane 5 mission of 2017
