Kymeta demos Ka-band satellite link using flat-panel metamaterials antenna

Kymeta, a company that designs and commercialises software-enabled metamaterials-based electronic beamforming antennas for satellite communications, announced that it successfully closed a link with a Ka-band DTH satellite transporting high definition TV signals. Kymeta believes that this is the first time a metamaterials-based antenna has established a connection with a Ka-band satellite.

SES, Inverto, Abilis and MaxLinear introduce industry’s first IP-LNB

SES, Inverto, Abilis and MaxLinear Inc. announced that they have been jointly designing an essential component for cost-effective IP distribution of satellite television to the home – the first low-noise block down-converter (LNB) that will incorporate eight-channel satellite-to-IP bridging technology.

SES to pioneer first Ultra HD transmission in new standard

SES announced that, together with its partners Harmonic and Broadcom Corporation, it has pioneered the first Ultra HD transmission in the new HEVC standard live from an Astra satellite at 19.2 degrees East.

DMCii increases downlink capacity with Svalbard ground station facilities

DMC International Imaging (DMCii) has signed an agreement with Kongsberg Satellite Services (KSAT) that will increase the volume of imagery acquired and the speed in which it can be delivered. The new facilities in Svalbard have allowed DMCii to receive 30% more data from day one, with the scope for significant further expansion in the future.

Honeywell to equip Boeing planes for Inmarsat GX service

Honeywell and Boeing have signed a technical services agreement to research and develop technologies for the next generation of high-speed, in-flight wireless connectivity. The companies said they are addressing passengers’ increasing demands for faster, more reliable in-flight connectivity on iPads, smartphones, tablet devices and laptops.
