NASA has awarded three contracts totalling US$137.3 million to improve the affordability, reliability and performance of an advanced booster for the Space Launch System (SLS). The awardees will develop engineering demonstrations and risk reduction concepts for a future version of the SLS.

On 26 September, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) concluded an agreement with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) under which the company will begin launch services using H-IIB rockets.

Arianespace’s fifth Ariane 5 flight of 2012 has been approved for its 28 September lift-off following a successful launch readiness review, which was performed at the Spaceport in French Guiana.

Indra has closed with the European Space Agency the definition of the requirements for the system that will manage the Spanish satellite Ingenio. The technological company leads the development, implementation and start-up of the ground segment for the future Spanish ground-based optical observation satellite, which will be ready to enter into service in 2015.

The undocking of the ATV-3 supply craft from the International Space Station (ISS) will take place Friday after a three-day delay, the European Space Agency (ESA) said. The vessel should have separated from the ISS on 25 September.
