Following discussions among the International Space Station partners, NASA has targeted the launch of space shuttle Endeavour’s STS-134 mission for 1947 UTC on 29 April. The delay removes a scheduling conflict with a Russian Progress supply vehicle scheduled to launch on 27 April and arrive at the station on 29 April.

The Soyuz site at Europe’s Spaceport near Sinnamary in French Guiana is now ready for its first launch. ESA yesterday handed over the complex to Arianespace, marking a major step towards this year’s inaugural flight.

United Launch Alliance (ULA) and XCOR Aerospace announced successful hot-fire demonstrations of a lower-mass, lower-cost approach to liquid-fuelled rocket-engine vacuum nozzles. The new nozzle technology, which uses aluminium alloys and new manufacturing techniques, is projected to be less costly and lower in mass compared to nozzles in use today in typical large upper-stage rocket engine systems.
