NASA’s solar-powered Juno spacecraft successfully refined its flight path with the mission’s first trajectory correction manoeuvre. The manoeuvre took place on 1 February. Astrium said it installed the one millionth solar cell from its supplier AZUR Space, a medium-sized supplier of solar cells based in Heilbronn, Germany, and delivered its 300th solar array. The European Union will reportedly award Germany’s OHB AG a EUR250-million (US$327 million) contract to build eight more satellites for the Galileo navigation system.

The first Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) satellite, built by Lockheed Martin, was encapsulated into its payload fairing on 29 January in preparation for a 16 February lift-off aboard an Atlas V launch vehicle from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station.

The special EUMETSAT Council meeting on 30-31 January recorded progress in the approval process for the EUMETSAT Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG) Preparatory Programme, with the sum of contributions increasing from nearly 55% to 83% and 18 of the 27 EUMETSAT Member States having firmly committed themselves to the programme.
