Boeing on 1 September received a US$1.09 billion contract modification from the U.S. Air Force adding funding to the existing Block II follow-on contract for full production, launch and on-orbit activation of the seventh Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellite and procurement of long-lead materials for an eighth satellite.

NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has reached a major milestone in its development. The mirrors that will fly aboard the telescope have completed the coating process at Quantum Coating Inc. in Moorestown, New Jersey.

In-orbit testing of PakSat 1R has begun at 37.8 degrees East on 11 September, China Great Wall Industry Corporation (CGWIC) said.

After a final thruster firing last week to deplete its remaining fuel, ESA’s ERS-2 observation satellite has been safely taken out of service. Ground controllers also ensured the space environment was protected for future missions.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has accepted the first and second Astrium-built Galileo In-Orbit Validation (IOV) satellites as part of their quality acceptance review.

KazSat 2 in-orbit tests are underway in accordance with the testing programme and mission plan. The satellite has been moved to its operational orbital slot 86.5 degrees East.

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has been awarded a contract to provide two high-power satellites to Intelsat for Direct-to-Home (DTH) television service in Latin America.
