NASA’s Stardust spacecraft sent its last transmission to Earth at 0033 UTC on 25 March, shortly after depleting fuel and ceasing operations. During an 11-year period, the venerable spacecraft collected and returned comet material to Earth and was reused (as Stardust-NExT) after the end of its prime mission in 2006 to observe and study another comet during February 2011.

NASA’s MESSENGER spacecraft successfully achieved orbit around Mercury at approximately 0200 UTC on 18 March. This marks the first time a spacecraft has accomplished this engineering and scientific milestone at our solar system’s innermost planet.
