SES World Skies has commissioned the SES-8 spacecraft from Orbital Sciences Corporation for a launch in the first quarter of 2013. Y1A, the first satellite of Al Yah Satellite Communications Company PrJsc, has arrived at The European Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana. The Intelsat New Dawn satellite is scheduled to be launched on 29 March 2011 from Arianespace’s launch site in Kourou, French Guiana. Intelsat New Dawn is the first ever African private sector communications satellite.

The U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin-led Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) team has finished final installations on the first geosynchronous (GEO-1) satellite and successfully completed the spacecraft’s final factory confidence test in preparation for delivery to the launch site.

NASA’s Stardust spacecraft has completed its closest approach with comet Tempel 1.

COM DEV Europe Ltd, a subsidiary of COM DEV International, announced the signing of a contract, valued in excess of EUR3 million, with Thales Alenia Space of France to provide ferrite-based switching payload equipment on CFOSAT, a joint French/Chinese ocean wind and wave monitoring satellite.

Boeing announced that it has completed the post-launch testing and on-orbit handover of the first LightSquared satellite and Space-Based Network (SBN). The satellite system has been accepted by LightSquared and is ready to begin service.
