NASA awards Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor contract

NASA has awarded a contract to the University of Colorado at Boulder’s Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics for the development of the Total and Spectral Solar Irradiance Sensor, or TSIS.

ESA and NASA establish joint Mars exploration initiative

On 29 and 30 June, the ESA Director of Science and Robotic Exploration, David Southwood, met NASA s Associate Administrator for Science, Ed Weiler, in Plymouth, UK, to establish a way for a progressive programme for Mars exploration.

Orbital to build new satellite to study X-ray polarisation

Orbital Sciences Corporation announced that it has been selected by NASA to design, manufacture, integrate and test a new low-Earth orbit (LEO) space science satellite that will study X-ray polarisation in space.

Plasma engine demonstrates superconducting first stage at full power

Ad Astra Rocket company said it has successfully demonstrated operation of its VX-200 plasma engine first stage at full power and under superconducting conditions in tests conducted at the company’s Houston laboratory.

GLONASS to go global by 2010

The number of satellites in Russia’s GLONASS system will reach 24 when another six satellites join the constellation this year, Anatoly Perminov, head of the Russian Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos), was quoted as saying.

DubaiSat-1 arrives at Baikonur cosmodrome

With only 18 days left for the launch of DubaiSat-1, the first remote sensing satellite developed by the Emirates Institution for Advanced Science & Technology (EIAST), the satellite has now been shipped from its development base in South Korea to the launch pad in Baikonur in Kazakhstan.

Contract signed for further ATV development

Proba-2 will start journey to Russia soon

Proba-2, one of the smallest satellites ESA has ever built for space, is about to leave its Belgian homeland. Its development and testing complete, the satellite is being packed up for the first leg of its journey to orbit – shipment to the Plesetsk launch site in northern Russia.
