Key climate sensor restored to NPOESS

A sensor considered critical in monitoring global climate will be restored to the first satellite scheduled to fly in the National Polar-Orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) top officials from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), NASA, and the U.S. Air Force said.

Radarsat-2 commissioned, ready for commercial operation

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. announced that Radarsat-2 completed its commissioning on 25 April 2008 and fully transitioned into commercial operations to deliver advanced radar images of the Earth.

Cartosat-2A and IMS-1 cameras switched on

Telemetry data received from India’s remote sensing satellites Cartosat-2A and Indian Mini Satellite-1 (IMS-1) indicates that all the subsystems of both spacecraft are functioning satisfactorily and the health of the satellites is normal.

Lockheed Martin completes SBIRS Baseline Integrated System Test

Lockheed Martin announced that it has achieved a major integrated test milestone on the first Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) geosynchronous orbit (GEO-1) spacecraft that enables the start of environmental testing in preparation for launch in late 2009.

Thales Alenia Space delivers Jason-2 to its Californian launch base

The Jason-2 satellite, built by Thales Alenia Space, left its integration centre in Cannes for its launch site. The satellite is slated for launch on 15 June from Vandenberg Air Force Base (California, USA) by a Delta II rocket.
