MESSENGER probe completes flyby of Venus

NASA’s MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging (MESSENGER) spacecraft swung by Venus for the second time early this evening for a gravity assist that shrank the radius of its orbit around the Sun, pulling it closer to Mercury. At nearly 24,000 km/h, this change in MESSENGER’s velocity is the largest of the mission.

Boeing completes Wideband Global SATCOM satellite tests

Boeing said it has successfully completed end-to-end testing of the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS, f.k.a. Wideband Gapfiller Satellite) payload command and control system, paving the way for the launch of the first WGS satellite this summer.

SSTL geostationary mini-satellite platform milestone completed

Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd (SSTL), has successfully completed its Baseline Design Review for a Geostationary Mini-satellite Platform (GMP). The EUR2.28 million pre-development project forms part of ESA’s Advanced Research in TElecommunications Systems funding stream for ESA/Industry partnerships (ARTES 4).
