Intelsat S.A. announced that Sun TV Network Ltd. (Sun TV) has signed a multi-year, multi-transponder contract for C-band capacity on the recently launched Intelsat 17 satellite (IS-17) at the 66 degrees East orbital location.

XTAR, LLC has been awarded a bandwidth contract from Intelsat General Corporation. The multi-million dollar contract calls for XTAR to provide Intelsat General with 79.5 MHz of high power X-band services from its XTAR-EUR satellite.

Globalstar, Inc. announced that the International Bureau of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted Globalstar authority to operate its second-generation satellites within the United States. This authority will become effective once Globalstar completes registering the constellation with France, which is expected to occur in the near future.

The loss of Eutelsat’s W3B satellite shortly after launch may have been caused by changes made to the spacecraft’s propulsion system. The location of the leak that rendered W3B useless shortly after separation from the Ariane 5 launcher was likely located in a propellant tube connected to one the satellite’s thrusters.
