U.S. Army awards WWSS contract

The U.S. Army said Boeing, General Dynamics and four small businesses were selected to compete under a contract worth up to US$5 billion to provide commercial satellite terminals and associated services to all federal agencies.

AAS gets order for German milsats

Alcatel Alenia Space has been granted a satellite contract for the next step of the German Armed Forces’ satellite communications programme Satcom BW Stufe 2 by EADS Astrium, the space segment prime contractor. The contract calls for the design, the manufacturing and the integration of two military satellites.

SinoSat 2 completes tests, to launch next month

SinoSat 2 (a.k.a. Xinnuo 2), China’s first large telecommunications satellite with an anti-jamming system, will be launched by a Chang Zheng 3B spacecraft from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center at the end of October, Chinese media reported.

Eutelsat orders two Sea Launches

AsiaSat recently announced that the Arabsat/ASBU Bouquet and RTB International, Brunei, havestarted broadcasting on AsiaSat 2, joining other Middle Eastern programming for free to air distribution to serve the Arab community in Asia and Australasia.

No bonus for Boeing, report

The U.S. Air Force will withhold 2006 programme award fees from Boeing after cost overruns and production delays on the GPS IIF programme, the Wall Street Journal reported.
