Acoustic testing for SBIRS GEO-1 payload completed

Northrop Grumman Corp. has successfully completed acoustic testing of the payload for the first Space-Based Infrared System (SBIRS) geosynchronous orbit (GEO) satellite. The company will provide the payload to Lockheed Martin , the prime contractor and systems integrator for SBIRS.

Eutelsat’s Hotbird 8 is operational

The Hotbird 8 broadcast satellite of Eutelsat Communications went into commercial service at 13 degrees East on 3 October. The satellite was brought into operation this morning at 0100 UTC.

One channel of Hubble’s ACS back online

A mechanical relay seems to have caused the latest trouble with Hubble, the space telescope’s managers said according to New Scientist. Meanwhile, one of the three channels of the recently shut down Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) is working again.
