Intelsat satellite-based cinema distribution network for Grupo Chilefilms

Intelsat S.A. announced an agreement with Grupo Chilefilms to provide satellite connectivity for a new digital cinema distribution network that will serve Mexico, the Caribbean and South America.

Lockheed Martin ATC develops nanotechnology copper solder

Scientists in the Advanced Materials and Nanosystems directorate at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Advanced Technology Center (ATC) in Palo Alto have developed a nanotechnology copper-based electrical interconnect material, or solder, that can be processed around 200 degrees C.

New manned Soyuz mission to ISS started

Rocket: Soyuz-FG; Payload: Soyuz TMA-06M; Date: 23 October 2012, 1051 UTC; Launch site: Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The manned transport spacecraft was accurately placed on the target orbit for another mission to the International Space Station.

NASA commercial crew partner Blue Origin completes pad escape test

NASA’s Commercial Crew Program (CCP) partner Blue Origin conducted a successful pad escape test last week at the company’s West Texas launch site, firing its pusher-escape motor and launching a full-scale suborbital crew capsule from a simulated propulsion module.

Astrium presents results of study into automatic moon landing

Astrium has presented at the ESA Preliminary System Requirement Review the major results of its Lunar Lander Phase B1 study. Carried out on behalf of the European Space Agency ESA, the study has consolidated the mission concept for automatic landing near the Moon’s south pole in 2019 as well as the provisional design of the lunar lander vehicle.

ATK selected to develop MegaFlex solar array structure

ATK’s MegaFlex solar array was recently selected by NASA’s Space Technology Program under a Game Changing Technology competition for development of the promising lightweight and compact solar array structure. ATK received a US$6.4 million contract for the MegaFlex development.
