Airbus Defence and Spac has been awarded a EUR60 million contract by the European Space Agency (ESA) to continue definition and feasibility studies in 2014 for the new Ariane 6 European launcher.

China’s first lunar rover, Yutu, has at least partially survived the recent lunar night even though the mechanism designed to protect it from the cold didn’t work as planned. It has been independently confirmed that the spacecraft is at least sending a signal.

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. has been awarded a US$5.8 million contract from the Defense Weather System Directorate at the Space and Missile Systems Center in Los Angeles, California, for the production of the Ion Velocity Meter (IVM) under the U.S. Air Force Space Situational Awareness Environmental Monitoring programme to fly aboard COSMIC-2, the Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere and Climate-2 (aka Formosat-7).
