Atlas V launches secret payload for U.S. National Reconnaissance Office

Rocket: Atlas V 421; Payload: NROL-61 [USA-269]; Date: 28 July 2016, 1237 UTC; Launch site: Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, USA. Hazard areas announced ahead of the launch show that the rocket headed towards a geostationary transfer orbit. The classified payload is thought to be a military communications satellite.

Rosetta stops listening for Philae

On 27 July 2016 at 0900 UTC, the Electrical Support System Processor Unit (ESS) on Rosetta will be switched off. The ESS is the interface used for communications between Rosetta and the lander, Philae, which has remained silent since 9 July 2015.

Launch date set for HTV 6

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) have set the date for the launch the H-IIB Launch Vehicle No. 6 (H-IIB F6) with the H-II Transfer Vehicle “Kounotori 6” (HTV 6, a cargo transporter to the International Space Station) onboard.

Intelsat 36 comes to Kourou

Payload preparations for Arianespace’s next Ariane 5 dual-passenger mission are moving into full pace with the delivery of the second satellite, Intelsat 36, to French Guiana – joining Intelsat 33e, which arrived earlier this month.
