NOAA offering satellite ride share

NOAA looks to test the capabilities of privately funded small satellites because a new NOAA Satellite Observing System Architecture study shows that future satellite instruments with lower cost and/or increased performance could provide significant benefit in NOAA’s future observing systems.

Hispasat and Gilat to commercialise HTS capacity of Amazonas 3 and 5

Hispasat and Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. have entered into a partnership to commercialise Hispasat’s Ka band satellite capacity over Brazil, with an estimated potential revenue of tens of millions of dollars over a period of several years.

Aerospace demos laser comms from CubeSats for 1st time

The Aerospace Corporation (Aerospace) announced a milestone with the Optical Communications and Sensor Demonstration (OCSD) mission. The laser communication system, carried by the two low-Earth-orbiting OCSD CubeSats also known as AeroCube-7B and Aerocube-7C, successfully transmitted data at a rate of 100 megabits per second which is 50 times greater than typical communication systems for this size spacecraft.

Work on RD-191 engine to boost Angara rocket capacity

Russia’s Energomash Scientific and Production Association will soon begin work with the RD-191 engine to boost the capacity of the Angara-A5M heavy carrier rocket, State Space Corporation Roskosmos Chief Dmitry Rogozin was quoted as saying.
