Recently installed Hubble data handling unit suffers glitch

The Hubble Space Telescope experienced an outage on 15 June after a malfunction of a science data handling unit installed during the last servicing mission, SM 4.

Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter in safe mode again

NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is in safe mode and in communications with Earth after an unexpected rebooting of its computer on 4 June (UTC).

Planck starts manoeuvre aimed at L2 arrival

ESA’s Planck satellite is carrying out a critical mid-course manoeuvre that will place the satellite on its final trajectory for arrival at L2, the second Lagrange point of the Sun-Earth system, early in July.

ESA extends Envisat mission through to 2013

ESA Member States have unanimously voted to extend the Envisat mission through to 2013. Envisat has been providing scientists and operational users with invaluable data for global monitoring and forecasting since its launch in 2002.

Second SBIRS GEO completes payload mating operations

The U.S. Air Force’s second geosynchronous Space Based Infrared Systems satellite successfully completed payload sensor mating operations at the Lockheed Martin Space Systems facility in Sunnyvale, California/USA, on 28 May.

Astrium to study moon landings for DLR

Astrium has been commissioned by the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to conduct a study for the testing of future moon landings. The aim is to prove the technological feasibility of a soft and precise robotic landing on the moon.

Yamal-201 temporarily loses orientation
