PLDT looking for another satellite provider

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) said it is in talks with two satellite providers after its existing one, ProtoStar, filed for bankruptcy in the U.S.

SES Astra signs capacity agreement on 31.5 degrees East

SES Astra has signed a new capacity agreement for its 31.5 degrees East orbital position. The German satellite service provider InSat will use one transponder on Astra 2C to provide IP backbone services to small and medium sized enterprises in the Middle East and Caucasus region.

Mobile communications provider TerreStar Networks Inc. (TerreStar), a majority-owned subsidiary of TerreStar Corporation, announced the successful completion of an end-to-end phone call over TerreStar-1.

MTN books NSS-12 capacity

MTN Satellite Services has signed a multi-year capacity agreement with SES Americom-New Skies. MTN, a SeaMobile company, provides satellite communications services to the maritime industry and remote locations around the world.

SES renames, repositions controversial pay-TV platform

SES Astra said it has closed a contract with ProSiebenSat1 Media AG for its German group of channels, German Free TV Group, for the transmission of three free TV programmes in High Definition (HD). According to local reports, this contract is part of SES Astra’s (so far unsuccessful) attempt to set up a de-facto pay-TV platform.
