SES Astra said it has renewed contracts with BSkyB (Sky) for 24 transponders on a long-term basis on Astra’s 28.2 degrees East orbital position. In total Sky is using 31 transponders on the Astra satellite system.

Lithuanian satellite service provider SatGate resumes its transmissions from SES Astra’s orbital position at 31.5 degrees East.

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems has provided the communications link for NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO) mission launched on 18 June 2009. The mission will use General Dynamics-made transceivers to communicate with ground control as it maps and studies the lunar environment.

C-COM Satellite Systems Inc. said it has developed a proprietary inclined orbit satellite tracking algorithm which will provide C-COM customers the ability to use inclined orbit satellites for their space segment needs.

SES Americom-New Skies announced that Spacenet has signed a multiyear satellite capacity agreement to help meet growing demand for emergency communications capabilities across North America.

Optus announced an eight year agreement in excess of A$100 million (EUR58 million, US$81 million) to provide satellite services to the Australian Broadcast Corporation (ABC).
