Iran’s Communications and Information Technology Minister Reza Taqipour has announced that Iran will launch a new domestically manufactured satellite named Fajr (“Dawn”) in the current Iranian calendar year, which will end on 20 March 2011.

Russia plans to launch 10 rockets in the first quarter of 2011, Interfax news agency reported. The country plans to launch about 50 spacecraft in total this year.

Rocket: Ariane 5 ECA; Payload: Hispasat 1E, Koreasat 6; Date: 29 December 2010, 2129 UTC; Launch Site: Kourou, French Guiana. The launcher deployed its two passengers during a mission lasting 34 minutes.

International Launch Services (ILS) and Satellites Mexicanos S.A. de C.V. (Satmex) announced the launch of the Satmex 8 satellite on an ILS Proton. The satellite is under construction by Space Systems/Loral (SS/L).

The launch of Hispasat 1E and Koreasat 6 aboard an Ariane 5 ECA was postponed today because of unfavourable weather.
