The Khrunichev/ESA/Russian Space Forces/Eurockot launch team preparing a Rokot launcher to its 2 November launch with ESA’s SMOS and Proba-2 spacecraft has successfully completed the spacecraft and rocket elements standalone checkouts.

Rocket: Atlas V; Payload: DMSP F-18; Date: 18 October 2009, 1612 UTC; Site: Vandenberg Air Force Base, USA. The rocket delivered the military meteorological satellite successfully to its assigned orbit after an 18 minute flight.

The U.S. Air Force is set to launch its next Defense Meteorological Program satellite, DMSP Flight 18, from Vandenberg Air Force Base’s Space Launch Complex 3 on 18 October. The launch is scheduled to occur within a 10 minute window beginning at 1612 UTC.

Rocket: Soyuz U; Payload: Progress M-03M (Progress P35); Date: 15 October 2009, 1056 UTC; Site: Baikonur, Kazakhstan. The vessel was placed into its targeted preliminary orbit approx. nine minutes after lift-off.

The launch of Intelsat 15 aboard a Sea Launch Zenit 3-SLB from Baikonur is currently scheduled for 29 November, according to a documents Intelsat filed with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.

There are contradicting reports regarding the launch dates of the next two GLONASS triplets. Interfax said that, in contrast to earlier reports, no new dates have been set.

The Russian Space Agency has rescheduled the launch of the next GLONASS triplet of navigation satellites.

NASA said it is partnering with the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory to develop a technology roadmap for the commercial reusable launch vehicle industry.
