Rocket: Ariane 5 ECA; Payload: NSS-12, Thor 6; Date: 29 October 2009, 2000 UTC; Site: Kourou, French Guiana. The rocket successfully deployed the two television broadcast satellites during a 31-minute mission.

NASA’s space shuttle Atlantis is targeted to begin an 11-day flight to the International Space Station with a launch from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on 16 November. Lift-off is scheduled for 1928 UTC.

NASA’s Ares I-X test rocket lifted off at 1530 UTC on 28 October from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida for a two-minute powered flight. The test flight lasted about six minutes from its launch from the newly-modified Launch Complex 39B until splash down of the rocket’s booster stage nearly 240 km down range.

The Eutelsat W7 spacecraft, provided by Thales Alenia Space, has arrived at the Baikonur launch site to begin preparations for launch.

Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) said it successfully conducted two static firings of the first stage, nine engine cluster for its Falcon 9 launch vehicle.
