International Launch Services (ILS) and Eutelsat announced a contract for the launch of the W7 satellite on an ILS Proton. The satellite was previously scheduled to launch aboard a Sea Launch Zenit 3-SL.

Proba-2 has reached Plesetsk Cosmodrome in northern Russia, where it is being prepared for launch this November. Among the smallest satellites ever built by ESA, it was transported there aboard an Ilyushin cargo plane.

Orbcomm Inc. and Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) announced they have reached an agreement for SpaceX to launch 18 Orbcomm Generation 2 (OG2) satellites to begin as early as the fourth quarter of 2010 through 2014.

A United Launch Alliance Atlas V is set to launch the PAN mission on behalf of the Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company on 8 September from Space Launch Complex-41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. The full launch window stretches from 2135 to 2345 UTC.

With launch just two months away, members of the SMOS team are currently in Russia inspecting the facilities where the launch campaign will soon get underway to prepare the ESA’s water mission for lift-off on 2 November.

Space shuttle Discovery, with its seven-member crew, launched at 0359 UTC on 29 August 2009 from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The shuttle will deliver supplies, equipment and a new crew member to the International Space Station.

NASA managers postponed tomorrow’s launch of space shuttle Discovery to allow engineers more time to develop plans for resolving an issue with a valve in the shuttle’s main propulsion system.
