Sea Launch files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy

Sea Launch Company L.L.C. and Sea Launch Limited Partnership and subsidiaries have filed voluntary petitions to reorganise under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware in Wilmington.

GAO: problems with new U.S. polar orbit weather satellites continue

While selected components of the NPOESS programme have made progress over the past year, the programme is once again over budget and behind schedule, the U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a recently published report titled “Polar-Orbiting Environmental Satellites: With Costs Increasing and Data Continuity at Risk, Improvements Needed in Tri-agency Decision Making.”

GAO: COTS demo launches delayed several months

The U.S. Government Accountability Office said in a report that NASA’s commercial partners in the agency’s Commercial Orbital Transportation Services (COTS) project were making progress. However, both Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX) and Orbital Sciences Corporation (Orbital) recently experienced schedule slips that have delayed upcoming demonstration launch dates by several months.

ICO to challenge Ofcom recommendation

ICO Global Communications plans to legally challenge a decision by the UK’s media regulator, Ofcom, which had recommended that the ICO-P assignments currently recorded in the ITU Master Register be cancelled.
