The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) has released its 2013 State of the Satellite Industry Report, showing a 7% growth in world satellite industry revenues in 2012, up from 5% growth in 2011. Globally, 2012 revenues for the satellite industry totalled US$189.5 billion, up from US$177.3 billion the previous year.

The global space economy grew to US$304.31 billion in commercial revenue and government budgets in 2012, reflecting growth of 6.7% from the 2011 total of US$285.33 billion. Commercial activity — space products and services and commercial infrastructure — drove much of this increase. From 2007 through 2012, the total has grown by 37%, according to Space Foundation’s 2013 Report.

SES announced that it has further increased its reach in 2012, driven by strong gains, especially in India and Germany. SES now reaches 276 million TV homes worldwide, over 17 million homes more than in 2011.
