Pike research: satellite communications market for smart grid applications to grow

According to a new report from Pike Research, revenue from satellite services and equipment for smart grid applications will reach US$368 million by 2020, increasing from just under US$67 million in 2012.

2012 State of the Satellite Industry Report released

The Satellite Industry Association (SIA) has released its annual State of the Satellite Industry Report which showed a modest growth of 5% in world satellite industry revenues which totalled US$177.3 billion in 2011. The report was completed by Futron Corporation for the SIA.

NSR says mobile satellite market poised for sustained growth

Now in its 8th edition, NSR’s Mobile Satellite Services report projects the sector will sustain its current robust growth by serving users with a mix of MSS, FSS and HTS-based solutions. Despite recent results that were less than stellar in the satellite handheld business, the mobile satellite market will reach milestones such as 1 million in-service units for the land-mobile sector and impressive growth for maritime and aeronautical service over the next ten years, NSR said.

Report warns of rapid decline in U.S. Earth observation capabilities

A new U.S. National Research Council report says that budget shortfalls, cost-estimate growth, launch failures, and changes in mission design and scope have left U.S. Earth observation systems in a more precarious position than they were five years ago.

Space Foundation publishes Space Report 2012

The global space economy grew to US$289.77 billion in 2011, reflecting a surprisingly robust single-year expansion of 12.2% and five-year growth of 41% in a global economy that has been suppressed in many other sectors. SES: Satellite becomes leading TV infrastructure in Europe

SES said that satellite has become the leading TV infrastructure in Europe, ahead of terrestrial and cable reception. Approximately 84 million European households have satellite (Direct-to-Home, DTH) as their primary TV reception mode, an increase of 22% over the last four years.
