Euroconsult forecast today that an estimated 1,145 satellites will be built for launch during the next ten years (2011-2020), 51 percent more satellites than the previous decade, during which 756 satellites were launched. These projections come from Euroconsult’s just-released “Satellites to be Built & Launched by 2020, World Market Survey.”

According to a new report from Euroconsult – “Satellite Communications and Broadcasting Markets Survey, Forecasts to 2020″ – the fixed satellite sector grew both in terms of transponder demand (+4.4 percent) and revenue, which reached US$10.8 billion in 2010. Euroconsult said in a new report on mobile satellite services (MSS) that continued demand in a wide range of applications and geographic markets over the coming decade will drive growth in the sector.

According to NSR’s newest market research report, Broadband Satellite Markets, 10th Edition, satellite broadband access is again the leading revenue generator with NSR forecasting revenues from these services will grow almost 15 percent annually over the coming ten years.

SES Astra said it has extended its technical reach across Europe, and now serves 135 million TV homes in Europe and North Africa via its satellite fleet. Euroconsult announced the findings of its just-published report “Government Space Markets, World Prospects to 2020.” According to the report, government spending on space hit a number of major milestones in recent years, including a historic peak in combined government spending of US$71.5 billion in 2010. However, after 10 years of spending increases across the globe, this trend is about to come to a halt. According to Euroconsult, public space programme financing will slow dramatically in the next five years due to several factors.
