The demand for mobile satellite services (MSS) in the maritime sector is expected to escalate due to crew welfare solutions, as users are beginning to expect Internet connectivity and access as the norm. As both equipment and solution prices reduce, smaller vessels are beginning to embrace satellite communication services.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, European Defence Strategic Communication Market Assessment, estimates that the market will earn revenues of US$1.08 billion in 2009 and reach US$2.37 billion by 2018.

Euroconsult predicts huge growth for satellite market

Euroconsult has announced that an estimated 1,185 satellites will be built and launched for the period 2009-2018, an increase of about 50 percent compared to the previous decade (1999-2008).

LatAm satellite services grow on broadband, pay-TV

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan, Latin American Satellite Service Market, finds that the market earned revenues of US$975 million in 2007 and estimates this to reach US$1.16 billion in 2013.

NSR LLC has released findings from its latest report, “Broadband Satellite Markets, 8th Edition” that indicate the broadband satellite sector may remain relatively unaffected by the global economic crisis if a turnaround begins in the next 6-12 months.

U.S. taxpayer group publishes database on spending for military satellites

U.S. government spending on unclassified satellites and space programmes is out of control and soared 42 percent to US$16.9 billion in fiscal 2009 from US$11.9 billion in 2005, the watchdog group Taxpayers for Common Sense said.

Space Report 2009 sees industry growth to US$257 billion

According to “The Space Report 2009: The Authoritative Guide to Global Space Activity,” which was released by the Space Foundation, overall world-wide space revenues grew nearly 2.5 percent in 2008, rising to US$257 billion.

Teal Mission Model counts 2,033 space payloads through 2028
