For its first mission to the International Space Station, SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft will use deployable solar arrays as its primary power source for running sensors, driving heating and cooling systems, and communicating with SpaceX’s Mission Control Center and the Space Station.

An engine firing on 11 January will be the biggest manoeuvre that NASA’s Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) spacecraft will perform on its flight between Earth and Mars. The manoeuvre is designed to impart a velocity change of about 5.5 meters per second.

Morehead State University Space Science Center staff and students delivered the Cosmic X-Ray Background Nanosatellite (CXBN) to NASA’s Launch Services Program on 6 January. CXBN was developed by MSU and partners during the past year and passed rigorous space environment testing and a series of design reviews, culminating in the flight readiness review held on 31 December.
