A Space Tracking and Surveillance System (STSS) Demonstration satellite built by Northrop Grumman and Raytheon autonomously transferred target track data from its acquisition sensor to its tracking sensor last July, the first time such a capability has been executed in space for the programme.

Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. said it would have a significant role on two of the five science instruments that will fly aboard the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO), a European-built spacecraft slated for launch to Mars in March 2016. The orbiter is a joint effort between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) to explore Mars in future decades.

MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. announced that it has signed a contract worth C$6 million with the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) to provide an advanced technology solution for CSA’s Exploration Surface Mobility programme.

Boeing and its teammate Ball Aerospace & Technologies announced that the Space Based Space Surveillance (SBSS) satellite and ground system have completed final testing. The satellite is scheduled to be launched on 25 September from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

NASA, on behalf of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has awarded a sole source contract to ITT Corporation. The award is for the Cross-track Infrared Sounder (CrIS) instrument planned for flight on the first Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS-1) in 2014.

The Rascom-QAF1R and Nilesat 201 telecommunications satellites, launched from Kourou in French Guiana by an Ariane 5 ECA rocket on 4 August, are now in operation. They have successfully passed their In Orbit Acceptance Review (IOAR), to the full satisfaction of the customers.

SenarioTek, LLC, a provider of custom RF/microwave test and measurement solutions, has been awarded a contract by Orbital Sciences Corporation to provide test technology to extend the capabilities of Orbital’s installed payload test systems for the HYLAS 2 satellite payload.
