Boeing completes on-orbit handover of DirecTV 12

Boeing announced that it has completed the on-orbit handover of the DirecTV 12 satellite. DirecTV will use the Boeing 702HP satellite to provide high-definition television (HDTV) broadcasting to local and national markets throughout the United States.

Final attempts to hear from Mars Phoenix

NASA’s Mars Odyssey orbiter has started a fourth and final campaign to check on whether the Phoenix Mars Lander has come back to life.

14 more GLONASS-M to be launched

Russia plans to launch 14 GLONASS-M satellites until the end of 2012, according to Nikolay Testoyedov, general designer and general director of Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems.

Lockheed Martin to build Vietnam’s second satellite

Lockheed Martin announced the award of a contract by Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) of Vietnam to build the Vinasat-2 satellite. In-orbit delivery is slated for the second quarter of 2012. Financial terms were not disclosed.

NigeriaSat-2 launch date announced (again)

SSTL has announced that it will launch the NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X satellites on behalf of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) by a Dnepr launch vehicle from Yasny, Russia, on 29 October 2010.
