NASA will extend the international Cassini-Huygens mission to explore Saturn and its planets to 2017. The agency’s fiscal year 2011 budget provides a US$60 million per year extension for continued study of the ringed planet.

The White House announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), NASA and the U.S. Air Force will no longer continue to jointly procure the NPOESS weather satellite system.

The transatlantic Jason-3 Programme has now been approved by EUMETSAT Member States thus ensuring a continuation of the series of measurements made by the Jason-2 satellite and its predecessors.

Kazakhstan will not automatically buy its future satellites from Russian companies and instead announce international tenders after the launch of its KazSat-2.

French company Sofradir, which manufactures Mercury Cadmium Telluride (MCT) infrared detectors for military, space and industrial applications, won a further EUR2.5 million contract to provide a second batch of 15 micron-pitch multi-linear short-wave infrared (SWIR) arrays for GMES.
