SMOS completes early orbit phase

ESA’s SMOS satellite has recently completed its first phase of life in orbit – the Launch and Early Orbit Phase (LEOP), which means that all the systems are working as they should and the satellite is ready for full commissioning.

Three European companies interested in data relay satellites

Three commercial teams have expressed strong interest in joining ESA in the proposed geostationary European Data Relay Satellite (EDRS) system, the agency said.

Galileo satellite engineering model platform integration tests completed

The platform-level integration tests on the engineering model of the Galileo in-orbit validation satellites have been completed at the Thales Alenia Space facility in Rome. The platform is currently undergoing functional testing. Delivery of the engineering model payload from Astrium UK is expected in December.

Completed TacSat-4 has to wait for launch until next August

U.S. Naval Research Laboratory engineers have completed all environmental and performance testing on the TacSat-4 COMMx payload. This completes the entire TacSat-4 spacecraft as the spacecraft bus was completed in May 2008.

U.S. weather satellite placed at backup slot

The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite 14 (GOES-14) was placed in on-orbit storage.

SBIRS GEO-1 thermovac tests finished

A joint U.S. Air Force/Lockheed Martin-led team announced that it has successfully completed thermal vacuum testing of the first Space Based Infrared System (SBIRS) geosynchronous (GEO-1) satellite.
