Mars rover stuck in soft soil; situation ‘very difficult’

The five wheels that still rotate on NASA’s Mars Exploration Rover Spirit have been slipping severely in soft soil during recent attempts to drive, sinking the wheels about halfway into the ground.

NRL’s ANDE-2 to launch aboard STS-127

The U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) has developed a satellite suite, the Atmospheric Neutral Density Experiment 2 (ANDE-2), scheduled for launch aboard NASA’s Space Shuttle Endeavour in June 2009.

Ekspress AM44 put into operation

The Ekspress AM44 satellite designed and manufactured by the JSC Academician M.F. Reshetnev Information Satellite Systems (ISS) was accepted by the customer, the federal state unitary enterprise Space Communication (RSCC) on 6 May.

ProtoStar II (IndoStar 2) pre-launch details

An International Launch Services Proton M launch vehicle, utilising a 5-burn Briz M mission design, will lift off from Pad 39 at Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, with the IndoStar 2/ProtoStar II satellite on board on 15 May.

NOAA, NASA re-select Lockheed Martin as GOES-R prime contractor

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and NASA officials announced Lockheed Martin Space Systems Co. has (again) been selected to build two satellites for NOAA’s next generation geostationary satellite series, GOES-R.

Progress M-66 undocked from ISS

SS/L to build backup for AsiaSat 5

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) has been selected to provide a new communications satellite, named AsiaSat 5C, to Asia Satellite Telecommunications company Limited (AsiaSat).
