Phoenix ‘in great shape’ after flawless touchdown on Mars

NASA’s Phoenix spacecraft landed in the northern polar region of Mars on 25 May to begin three months of examining a site chosen for its likelihood of having frozen water within reach of the lander’s robotic arm. It was also the first time a Mars probe was photographed during landing by an orbiting satellite.

Phoenix healthy and on course, fine weather expected for landing

NASA’s Phoenix spacecraft is healthy, right on target, and even predicted to have good landing weather on 25 May, team leaders from The University of Arizona, the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and Lockheed Martin said at a news briefing.

Canadian weather station on Mars to be opened soon

As NASA’s Phoenix spacecraft makes its final approach for a landing on Mars, engineers from MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates will support critical weather and robotics systems on-board the spacecraft from the mission operations centre at the University of Arizona in Tucson, the company said.
