The European Commission confirmed reports it had proposed a new tendering process for its Galileo satellite navigation system which would prevent any one company from having a dominant share of the work.

Inmarsat has officially awarded a contract to Astrium for the Alphasat I-XL satellite to augment its Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) service.
